For the 2016 Holiday Card, I was responsible for meeting with the President of the University, Dr. Merriman, his wife, and the choir director to brainstorm ideas. Once a theme was generated and a song was selected, I recorded video footage on campus and combined it with b-roll from a professional commercial project completed earlier in the year.
It was then sent out to all members of our campus community via email (students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, friends, etc.) and shared to our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube channels.
It garnered over 30,000 impressions, 12,000 views and 350 shares.
Some of the reviews received include:
“I am privileged to receive many Holiday Greeting email cards and videos from colleges and universities across the country. I can say with complete honesty that Mount Union’s is far and away the best of them all. It’s not that my wife and I are both intensely proud Mount Union grads (though we are), but the message conveyed in your video is EXACTLY what alumni and friends want to see: students participating in art, drama, sports, community projects, and just having fun. And the campus scenes are spectacular. I always count the ‘talking heads’ in the email cards I receive, and I couldn’t be prouder that for the Mount card the total number is ‘none.’ Every video sequence contains students and not one administrator in sight. From my background as an administrator, this is unheard of. The background music of the university choir is perfection. I’ve watched the video about 20 times to see how long it would take for me to NOT get chills from the beauty of it all, and each time I watch it I find it to be even more emotional. To everyone who helped put this video together, congratulations! Please forward my email to all of them, and especially to President Merriman, who I assume is Prexy 1. They deserve high praise. You all got it exactly right.”Two of Mount’s proudest alumni from 1964 and 1963,Don and Joan (Elliott) Gray
