App of the Week | Sunrise

Following an awesome recommendation from my friend Wade [ you should check out his Ohio Gamers YouTube channel ], I have decided to add another series to my blog – a weekly app review. My love for finding awesome, new apps is uncontrollable so I might as well share it with you guys!

To start off, I’m going to focus on the one app I know I could not live without – Sunrise.

Currently, Sunrise is the most badass, crazy-awesome, free calendar app on the market, for a couple reasons:

  1. It syncs with Google + Exchange + iCloud calendars, flawlessly.
  2. The app’s design is breathtaking.
  3. Reminders + alerts are on point.
  4. Updates are synced e v e r y w h e r e [ iPhone, home + work computers, iPad, Android ]
  5. Adding locations is a breeze with their Google Maps integration.
  6. Allows for simple language input by pressing and holding the button in the top right hand corner.
  7. Invite friends to your events, and it syncs to all users’ devices.
  8. Choose from their dozens of provided calendars to keep up to date with your favorite sports teams or religious holidays.
  9. By connecting your social networks, you can see photos of who you’re meeting with, Facebook event invites and updates of your Foursquare check-ins.
  10. Live weather forecasts.

If you’re like me and live minute to minute based on your calendar – this app is definitely for you. Even if you’re more relaxed about your smartphone calendar usage, you should still give Sunrise a try, because I promise your life will feel more manageable and organized.

However, every app can benefit from some upgrades and in the case of Sunrise, there is one update I would love to see – drag and drop events on the mobile version. My schedule changes hourly and rearranging by dragging would be a great improvement instead of opening the events to change the time/date.

Other than that – this app is great – super easy to use, syncs with a wealth of calendars and looks fantastic while doing so! & in other news, last week Sunrise was acquired by Microsoft for upwards of $100 million, so here’s to hoping for even more exciting updates and integrations in Sunrise’s future. I hope you enjoyed this review and it saves you some time scanning the app/play store! 🙂
